Mounted Birds. Five years ago, I inherited a beautiful, wooden framed, glass display case with 17 mounted birds inside. These birds are prominently displayed in my classroom and I use them to help my students develop their observation skills, gain a sense of scale, learn field marks, and develop a sense of wonder. In addition, these birds are used by the Art teachers and the Language Arts (English) teachers in my building. I also take these birds “on the road” with me when I do local talks or presentations. They are on display at the local library during April to help promote the “Spring Bird Walks in Reading” I lead annually.
